Separated Families & Family Law

Separated Families & Family Law

The separation of a family can be one of the hardest times of a parent or child's life and comes with its own unique set of circumstances.

Rowe & Associates is one of the few child psychology practices in Sydney that provides clinicians with specific training, expertise and experience in working with separated parents and families, particularly those who are currently in the Family Court.

Our team of registered psychologists has extensive experience working with separated parents and their children. We understand the pressures that come with Family Law matters, and we tailor our approach to fit the unique circumstances of each family. We offer practical guidance and support to help children cope and assist parents in confidently navigating co-parenting after separation. We proudly serve families within St. George NSW and throughout the Sutherland Shire, ensuring that local communities have access to our trusted child therapy services.

Individualised Therapy & Intervention Plans

Every family is unique, and your child’s journey with us begins with a thorough assessment of their needs. Based on this, our psychologist will recommend an individually tailored intervention plan, which may include one-on-one therapy for your child, parent-only guidance sessions, or whole-family therapy together. This personalised approach ensures our child therapy services target your child’s specific challenges most effectively, using proven, evidence-based strategies to help achieve meaningful progress.

Individual, Child & Family Therapy

A Court may direct a family to engage the services of a psychologist during legal proceedings. This process may be confidential, so as not to disrupt the therapeutic relationship between client and psychologist, OR the Court may request that the therapy is reportable and call on the psychologist to provide an opinion and make recommendations.

Rowe & Associates offers clinicians who understand the pressures and unique context of Family Law. We can provide therapeutic and emotional support for children, as well as sessions on effective co-parenting, individual adult therapy, and effective family therapy in what is often a conflict-fueled environment.

If you are currently in the midst of Family Court proceedings, contact our South Hurstville clinic to see how our therapists may be of assistance.

Family Law Assessments

Family Law assessments are often referred to as Single Expert Reports (Chapter 15 Reports), Full Family Reports, Child Impact Reports or Short Form Reports. These reports require an independent Expert to assess parental capacity, attachment, mental health, violence and custody disputes.

Specifically, some of our psychologists provide Expert opinion and recommendations to the Court in the following areas:

  • Educational disputes of school settings, homeschooling etc.

  • Child Cognitive and academic testing for developmental delay, giftedness and learning disorders

  • Child developmental assessments for Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Our detailed reports and testimony can assist the Court in making informed decisions about your child's welfare. Rowe & Associates is a partner of the Family Report Writers Network, which means our clinicians are accredited to deliver high-quality expert reports for Family Court.

If you would like more information about obtaining a Family Law assessment or a Single Expert Report, please contact Family Report Writers Network. We are ready to guide you through the process and answer any questions about this service.

Parenting Co-ordination

With extensive experience in working with separated families, many of them in high conflict, our psychologists are well positioned as Parenting Coordinators.

Our Parenting Coordinators are fully registered psychologists with additional training in high conflict separated families, some of them being also Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners (FDRP).

Parenting Coordination is a child-focused process that assists parents in implementing Court Orders or a Parenting Plan. A Parenting Coordinator is your co-parenting coach, assisting parents to improve their communication, work through daily practical issues that arise in separated households, reduce the likelihood of future litigation, and reduce overall conflict.

All Parenting Coordination meetings are 1.5 hours in duration and held over Telehealth. Parenting Coordination is typically a service provided by a Court Order and commences with an individual parent intake appointment, followed by regular joint Zoom sessions.
